In the context of The African Union Vision of an integrated, stable, peaceful and prosperous continent; Agenda 2063, particularly Strategic Pillar Four, on the building of a peaceful and secure Africa; the UN Security Council Resolution 2457 (2019) on Silencing the Guns in Africa by the Year 2020, which was adopted on 27 February 2019.

Recognizing the UN Programme of Action (UN PoA) to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in all Its Aspects, as well as the AU Master Roadmap on Practical Steps to Silence the Guns in Africa by the year 2020.

In the line with the 29th ordinary session of the assembly of African Union held on 3-4 July 2017, in Addis Ababa declared the month of September each year as ‘African Amnesty Month” for the surrender and collection of illegally acquired and owned weapons /arms in line with Africa and international best practices.

 RECSA is officially launching the September ,2021 Amnesty Month; which will be implemented in three countries; Madagascar, Niger and Uganda. These countries have been chosen by the AU and UN to conduct an effective awareness campaign for the voluntary surrender of weapons that are illegally held by civilians.

1/4 Today RECSA in partnership with MSAG & BICC opened a regional training for LEAs & the military on Physical Security & Stockpile Mgt (PSSM).The course will run from 11-15 Oct & selected best participants will continue with 1 week ToT program to produce future PSSM instructors.

1/2 RECSA ES stated that before deployment of Peace Keepers the UN should be able to know the source of illicit weapons hence the missions should include undertaking interventions aimed at cutting off the source of the illicit Fire Arms.
