RECSA – EASF PARTNERSHIP MEETING

The Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) and the Eastern Africa standby force leaders (LT.Gen Badreldin Elamin Abdegadir on behalf of RECSA and Dr.Abdillahi Omar Bouh) conducted a meeting to examine the status implementation of the existing MoU that was signed in January 2014.

The two institutions reiterated their desirability of cooperation within the fields of their respective competence of enhancing peace and security in the east African member states including among other things prevention, control and reduction of small arms and light weapons.

The meeting resolved that RECSA and EASF technical team will review the existing MoU and propose relevant amendments and submit to the two principals for signature in a ceremony which will be followed by a joint communique. The 2014 MoU had identified the areas of cooperation in the fields of Exchange of information, DDR, Community education and awareness programs as well as Peace support Operations.

During the meeting it was decided that the two institutions will appoint the focal points for the implementation of the MoU and RECSA Executive secretary has appointed Mr.Eric Kayiranga as RECSA focal Point and EASF Director nominated LT.Col David OKELLO as the focal point for EASF.


1/4 Today RECSA in partnership with MSAG & BICC opened a regional training for LEAs & the military on Physical Security & Stockpile Mgt (PSSM).The course will run from 11-15 Oct & selected best participants will continue with 1 week ToT program to produce future PSSM instructors.

1/2 RECSA ES stated that before deployment of Peace Keepers the UN should be able to know the source of illicit weapons hence the missions should include undertaking interventions aimed at cutting off the source of the illicit Fire Arms.
