UNREC AND RECSA HIGH-LEVEL MISSION TO BOLSTER COOPERATION

LOME: RECSA and the United Nations Regional Centre for Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) have signed a Technical Cooperation Framework to deepen their partnership towards peace, security and disarmament in Africa.

The framework was signed during a high-level Partnership meeting between the UNREC Director Mr. Anselme Yabouri and the RECSA Executive Secretary Lt. Gen. Badreldin at UNREC offices in Lome, Togo in on 22-23 January 2019.

The Cooperation Framework will guide the revitalization of Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNREC and RECSA in 2009. The roadmap defines concise and measurable interventions that are aligned to the objectives of the MoU.

They include joint programme development and resource mobilization for activities relating to the implementation of arms control instruments, Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM), ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty, peace education and policy research.

In addition, RECSA has invited UNREC to participate in the RECSA Council of Ministers Meetings as an observer.
