COMMUNIQUE ON THE VISIT OF THE RECSA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY TO RWANDA

KIGALI, 10 October 2018: The RECSA Executive Secretary Lt. Gen. Badreldin Elamin Abdelgadir has concluded a two-day visit to Rwanda.

During the visit, Lt. Gen. Abdelgadir held high-level consultations with the Minister of Justice Hon. Johnstone Busingye and the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel Gasana on national and regional efforts to control the proliferation of illegal weapons and ammunition.

Hon. Busingye and Lt. Gen. Abdelgadir graced the opening ceremony a two-day sensitization workshop for government officials on the Arms Trade Treaty on Tuesday. Speaking during the workshop, the Minister reiterated Rwanda’s commitment to the Arms Traded Treaty and assured that the legal process to ratify the treaty was on course. Rwanda signed the ATT in 2013.

The RECSA Executive Secretary commended Rwanda for its commitment to arms control processes and appreciated the consistent support the government of Rwanda has accorded to RECSA.

The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel Gasana hosted the Lt. Gen. Badreldin for discussions on ongoing projects including plans to construct a Centre of Excellence in Gishali where Law enforcement officials from the region will be trained on best practices in weapons and ammunition management.
